The Realisation

For as long as man has existed as part of the Earth's complex eco-system, he has utilized the natural world not only for food, but as a source of inspiration for his further development.

A glimpse at 'Discovery Channel' gives daily examples. Sandwich panels with hoineycombe core, 'shark skin' suits for speed skating, or something so simple as paper are all examples of principles from nature finding applications in our daily life. Simple observation of nature can lead to the inspiration for a technological leap forward.

Who hasn't wondered at how a spider spins her web, or how an ant apparently effortlessly transports a leaf to its nest, or how a cricket makes its 'chirrup'. The last example is perhaps not so simple, since although it's easy to hear a cricket, thanks to it's camouflage you don't usually see it.

This camouflage was to become my inspiration.
